(PLACED!) Ulysse is 14 years old and has been studying English in school
for 4 years. His family hosted a student from Knoxville this year so he
knows firsthand what an immersion experience is like. His family loves
America and he is excited to have this opportunity. Ulysse has a 19 yr

cat. He has traveled to the US before on a trip to Seattle - he loves
American food, but he is not a fan of seafood! Ulysse really likes

(PLACED!) Marguerite lives
in Paris and is 15 ½ - the youngest in her family with 3 siblings in
their 20’s. She is traveling ahead of the group and will be here
July 1 through July 20th*.
She is hoping to become lifelong friends with an American teenager her
age or older who will hopefully be able to travel to France next summer
to stay with her. It is uncommon to be able to share our Fourth of July
with the French teens because usually they are still in school right up
to about the 5th or 6th of July. This is a great opportunity for you if
you love celebrating the Fourth with music, bbq & fireworks!
Marguerite is a typical teenage girl who loves cooking, cheerleading,
dance, animals, photography, history, travel, the beach, art, shopping,
fashion, movies and modern music (she’ll probably know all the words to
every song popular right now!). She has been studying English for 8
years and says her comprehension and speaking skills are very good.
Judging by the letter she has written for her host family, she is
fluent, and was modest in her assessment of herself. She is
hard-working, responsible, independent, active and playful. She’s been
to England and loved it, and also to Morocco, Italy and Germany.
However, coming to the U.S. is longtime dream and is very important to
her. She is looking forward to discovering our way of life, what is
typical in high school, what school buses are like, and just enjoying
hanging out with you and your friends. She writes that she is ready for
this trip and has been preparing for it a long time and will love
everything that comes her way while she is in Nashville.
*The French chaperone arrives on July 9th with the rest of the
group but with her fluency, translation will not be needed, and
Marguerite has been allowed to do this due to her maturity and knowing
that the local coordinator will be able to step in if needed.
(PLACED!) Margaux is 13 and lives in a seaport city in the south west of France. She lists being active and doing things outdoors in nature as something she really likes. Also, fashion, photography, animals, music, swimming, boating, and horseback riding. She is very impatient for July to get here so she can meet her host family and see the sights and have a sister to go shopping with!
(PLACED!) Aurore will celebrate her 17th birthday while she is here this summer. She loves travel and being able to come to the USA again after a family trip to Fort. Lauderdale is a dream come true for Aurore. She is curious to discover American family life, our city, and see the sights. She wishes to learn so many different things while she is here, especially about our culture, the arts, the music, meeting your friends and explore so many new things. Aurore lives on an island on the Atlantic side of France. She lives with her parents and her father is a designer and she has older siblings in their 30’s and also a niece. Aurore likes many sports and being active with tennis, running, biking, walking, and swimming. She also plays the piano and loves art, music, dancing, and shopping. She describes herself as playful, sensitive, independent, open-minded and easy-going. She feels her comprehension of English is good, and hopes to improve her speaking skills by spending 3 weeks talking, listening and learning. Aurore loves the USA and says she is so lucky to be able to come back and share in your daily life.
(PLACED!) Simon is
an extremely motivated 13 year old. He hasn’t had as much English as
some of the older students but he is determined to discover the American
culture, what kids his age do here and especially what is good to eat!
His main goal is to progress in spoken English. This will be a true
immersive experience for him, but his parents and Simon both want the
opportunity; he is determined to learn while enjoying a great adventure
this summer. If you have a talkative family and are willing to explore
many ways to communicate as he learns, you will have a great time
helping him build his vocabulary. The USMD students travel with an
awesome chaperone, so no worries, help is just a phone call away! Simon
loves being active and playing sports, especially rugby. He lives with
his parents in the South of France, near the sea. They have a cat, and
Simon also has two older half-brothers age 24 & 28. Simon has many
friends who live in the city who regularly come to his house to hang out
and play video games. Simon is interested in many things which will
make it very easy for your family to do things that everyone enjoys as
you show him Tennessee and share your life with him. He is a happy and
confident kid, pleasant to be around, and according to his mom, not shy
but not extroverted either – somewhat in the middle. Simon will go with
the flow and enjoy every minute of it, and who knows, maybe by the end
of July he will be a wild & crazy guy!
(PLACED!) Max
is 15 years old and is described as easy-going, fun to be around,
responsible and active. He lives just outside of Paris with his mom
& dad, a 12 year old sister and they have a beautiful young

American companies in the healthcare industry. His mother is an
engineer, but now works as a project manager in a top French bank. Max
is very close to his family and they do a lot of things together and
with his cousins. They all enjoy traveling and he has visited many parts
of Europe as well as places in Asia such as Singapore, Bali Island, and
Thailand. He is excited to be a part of your family to compare life
experiences and points of view, find out what favorite foods your family
likes, to meet your friends and discover the American culture in a
typical setting. Max likes a lot of sports and is in a swim club and a
climbing club. He has quite a rivalry going on with his dad as they
support opposing soccer teams Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain. Apparently
it is a source of entertainment for his mother and sister to watch them
defend their teams. He would probably love to go home with
American-style comebacks to up the friendly competition with his dad!
He is eager to know more about the activities and sports you enjoy. Max
also likes computers and video games, movies and TV. His watch list
includes The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones and movies such as Iron
Man. He is looking forward to improving his English speaking skills in a
less formal way than can be accomplished in a school classroom. Max
has studied English for 5 years and in a talkative host family, he will
practice all he has learned with this exciting opportunity to learn
& discover our way of life. Max chose Nashville for its culture and
family values, traditions and famous history and is looking forward to
his time here this summer.
(PLACED!) Marguerite
is 16 years old and will be celebrating her 17th birthday during her
stay here this summer. She is the oldest in her family and has two
younger sisters age 14 and 12. Her father is a farmer and her mother
stays at home now but previously worked in a hospital. They live in a
small village in the North of France. Marguerite decided to go to a
boarding school in another town this year and loves both the
independence and the weekends spent at home walking across the fields
with her mother. She is motivated and enjoys discovering new places and
cultures. She has visited England, Sweden, Turkey, Italy and Spain and
this will be her first trip outside of Europe. She chose Nashville to
experience the atmosphere of our city, see the landscape, and also
because her father came here 20 years ago! Marguerite likes to stay fit
and enjoys sports, running, rugby, swimming, skiing, and dance. She
also likes fashion, shopping, music, movies, and cooking. She is
involved in charity work with an organization that helps people obtain
food and clothing. Marguerite describes herself as responsible and
active, and feels her English comprehension is good to very good, and

difference in her fluency.
